I started riding at 3 years old and competing at 9. I quickly learned as a child since I am basically a small person and sort of shy that the horses I rode in competition put their hearts and lives on the line in every competition!
I was too small to compete in football, hockey and certainly basketball. The other guys and girls in school admired the bigger and stronger athletes. I didn’t let that bother me too much because it was my secret that polo and show jumping are actually quite dangerous. I’m sure you know, women compete equally with men on horses. On the ranch, there is not much difference between cowboys and cowgirls. Everyone works hard.
